I came across this vintage Bonhams catalogue dating from 1993.

In my research into sales of Doctor Who costumes and memorabilia at historical Bonhams auctions, I don’t think I’ve seen quite so many Who-related items in a general sale before - 75 items in total, most of which are costume.

Catalogues in those days were sparsely written, often containing typing errors and misattributions. Hence you will see Sontarin (not Sontaran) and Androzanni (instead of Androzani).
Other instances cite the wrong episode titles; wrong seasons; and occasional wrong aliens!

Where possible I have used the (few) photos from the catalogue to illustrate the items, but most I have sourced images from either episodes cited, or later Bonhams auctions where it would appear these items resurfaced for sale.
In it a large number of ex-BBC Costume Dept outfits from Doctor Who were sold off.

Since then I have found another catalogue from 1992, this time from August.

Interestingly a number of the extensive Doctor Who items sound very much like those sold back in January, though with much higher estimates this time around.

More recently I think we have seen some of these lots continuing to be sold on. It’s fascinating to trace the items back through the various auction catalogues, following the prices they sell for.

As usual I have separated the items by Doctor era, and you can see the rest of the items here:

Can’t believe 2014 is nearly over - so to confirm its immenant demise Bonhams are holding their usual December Entertainment Memorabilia sale.

Must say I’m a little puzzled by this item in the catalogue.

If the photograph is to be gone by, it sold in last year’s December 2013 Bonhams sale for an eye-watering £6,250. Curious to see it’s back up for sale for a mere £2,000 to £3,000.

The past few auctions have been Doctor Who lite when it comes to items, so there is no surprise that the first post-Anniversary is brimming with costumes and nick backs, dating back to 1968.
When I was at the last Bonhams auction, one of the auctioneers made mention of a further sale in June, where Doctor Who items would be available.

I think I was expecting another full-on sale of ex-BBC items, but what it appears to be is a general Memorabilia sale, with a hand full of Who related lots.

There are seventeen items in total, and you need to real carefully what they are. The repeated use of the phrase “built for exhibition purposes” is a bit disappointing.

I’ll go to the viewing, but I can’t see myself bidding on anything.
Lot 128
Part believed to be from The Evil of the Daleks, 1967
A Dalek (heavily altered for Exhibition purposes), of wood, plastic and metal construction, distressed overall, with black body and blue hemispheres overpainted grey (all now flaking), with narrow single panel set of hemispheres to rear skirt, the neck and dome sections created for exhibition purposes (plunger and eye missing), slats of metal, much of dome section missing, height approximately 61 inches

Estimate: £2,000 - 3,000
Sold for £4,800

Footnote:
It is believed that the skirt and shoulder sections of this Dalek were used on 'Evil of the Daleks' in 1967.
The rear of the skirt section reveals a single panel of hemispheres, however Daleks skirt sections ordinarily feature two rows of hemispheres. The single panel section were used during this particular episode, it has been suggested, so that the Daleks could travel through doors whilst on set.

UPDATE

Apparently, this Dalek was created to go through ordinary doors on set and was nicknamed the Wilkie Dalek after Bernard Wilkie, co founder of the BBC Visual Effects Department rescued it from a skip at Ealing Studios in the 1970’s.
